SAARS, KEEPING THE EXCITEMENT OF HAM RADIO GOING!

  St Augustine Amateur Radio Society

If you are a new Amateur Radio Operator or an Old Ham, the St. Augustine Amateur Radio Society (SAARS) welcomes you to Amateur Radio in the “ Old City ”.  St. Augustine has a long and proud tradition when it comes to Amateur Radio.  SAARS members are young and old, men and woman.  Club members are diverse in their various interest and activities in ham radio.  We have Masters of CW and some of the best DX’ers in the country and if you are interested in digital, we have hams that can help you with that too.

  Meetings and Club information

We invite you to attend the meetings of the St. Augustine Amateur Radio Society.  We welcome all ham radio operators or those who have an interest in the pursuit of Amateur Radio.  We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Memorial Lutheran Church at 3375 U.S.1 South in St. Augustine.  SAARS is proud to be affiliated with the Amateur Radio Relay League.  To learn more about SAARS, our members and events, visit our web site at http://www.saarsham.net

Club Call and Repeaters

SAARS members operate on and support several repeaters in St. Augustine.  The Club Call is N4AUG and most of the activity can be found on the 146.625 or the 145.210 repeaters. Neither of these Repeaters are tone activated.  Both of the 2 meter machines are located at 350’ and have an excellent footprint.  These repeaters are open to all Technician class and above Amateur Radio Operators.

Emergency Communications Support

SAARS members are very active with supporting our county emergency services through the local ARES® and SKYWARN organizations.  Many club members support and are members of ARES® and SKYWARN an act as emergency radio operators during natural and man-made disasters.  They also report inclement weather conditions to the Nation Weather Service and other ham radio operators as trained National Weather Service SKYWARN spotters.

Testing Sessions

The St. Augustine Amateur Radio Society provides regular testing sessions for all levels of Amateur Radio  Operator.  The testing sessions are usually held at the Memorial Lutheran Church every other month.  Please see our web site at http://www.saarsham.net for scheduled testing dates.  SAARS offers a free membership to anyone just for taking any Amateur Radio Operators exam at one of our testing sessions. That’s right we’ll give you a membership just for taking the exam.

Programs and Events

Ok, not all of our activities are related to emergency services.  We are very active doing fun and family related activities with our radios and related equipment.  Field Day is a nationally recognized weekend where Amateur Radio Operators and clubs set-up their radio equipment in field conditions to try and make as many contacts on as many different bands and using as many different modes of possible.  Field Day always creates many club memories and is one of our favorite events.  We participate in other events as well during the year including the Night of Lights celebration, the Independence Day celebration, National Lighthouse Days and Amateur Radio Kids Day and quarterly radio campouts to mention just a few.

Rag Chew Net

The St. Augustine Amateur Radio Society holds its 2 meter rag chew net at 7:00 p.m. every Wednesday evening on the 146.625 repeater.  All Technician and above operators are welcome and encouraged to check into the net and give us an update on any subject you would like to discuss or just check in to say hello.

SAARS Lunch Social

Members and friends of SAARS meet socially each Friday at 12:00 noon at Shaughnessy's Grill.  Shaughnessy's Grill is located at 4255 US 1 south (in the Publix Shopping center).  We informally discuss anything ham radio related and ok, some things not related to ham radio at all.  We do have a great time.  Come join us.

We Welcome You to Join Us

I am sure that you will love being part of our organization and we would love to have you as a SAARS member.  SAARS annual dues are currently $20.00.
